1. Who we are

Barkline is an independently published tree-identification reference at aspenes.top. For anything in this policy, including any request to exercise a right described below, contact [email protected]. That address is the data controller's contact point for this site.

2. What we collect directly

The site itself sets no account, no login and no form. It does not ask for your name, your email address or any other identifying detail, and it does not store any of them. If you email us, we hold the message and your address for as long as it takes to answer and to keep a record of the correction — nothing more.

3. Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard request logs: IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent and referrer. These are used for security, capacity planning and diagnosing faults, and are retained for a limited period. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not sold.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The pages themselves set no cookies. Cookies are, however, set by the third-party services described below — in particular by advertising partners, which may set cookies or read device identifiers in order to select and measure advertising. Where consent is required by law, those cookies are only set after you have given consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through the consent notice on the site.

IP addresses are not stored in a form that identifies an individual, and analytics data is not combined with advertising data to profile you. If no measurement tool is enabled, none is loaded and no analytics cookies are set.

7. What we never do

• We do not sell, rent or trade personal data.
• We do not collect special-category data such as health, beliefs or precise location.
• We do not ask for or store payment details — nothing on this site is sold directly.
• We do not run advertising inside the diagnostic content of a dossier.

8. Your rights under the GDPR (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict or object to its processing; receive it in a portable form; and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. We answer within one month, and we may need to ask for enough information to identify the data you mean — note that because this site collects almost nothing directly, in many cases there will be nothing to disclose.

9. Your rights under the CCPA / CPRA (California)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and for what purposes; the right to request deletion; the right to correct inaccurate information; the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising; the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent that sharing data with advertising partners for interest-based advertising is treated as a "sale" or "share" under California law, you may opt out using the consent notice on this site or by writing to [email protected].

10. Children

This site is a reference work aimed at adults and older students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to the address above and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Our hosting and any advertising or analytics providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers have put in place, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

12. Security and retention

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to any data we hold is limited to the one person who runs the site. Logs and email are kept only as long as they are needed for the purposes described above, and then deleted.

13. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
